Doris Kearns Goodwin leads off Eagleton anniversary speaker series
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin will give the opening lecture Thursday, September 21, as the Eagleton Institute of Politics kicks off a special speaker series, “Because Politics Matters,” in celebration of the institute's 50th anniversary. Homecomings 2006

Rutgers-New Brunswick/Piscataway will “Paint the Town Scarlet!” at Homecoming 2006. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights take on the Ohio University Bobcats Saturday, September 16, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. Don’t miss the Homecoming Festival at 12:30 p.m. on the E-fields, adjacent to the stadium.

Rutgers-Camden alumni are invited to return to campus for a Saturday, October 7, homecoming to cheer on the women’s soccer team as they host St. Elizabeth College at 12:30 p.m. and the men’s soccer team as they host Lincoln University at 3 p.m. An alumni soccer game will take place following the men’s game and fun sideline activities for the whole family are scheduled throughout the day. Camden exhibit examines the ‘art’ in cartoons
More than 30 international artists whose work expands upon the notion of a cartoon being flat are featured in the exhibit “Art in the ’Toon Age” on the Camden campus through Saturday, September 23. At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, September 21, Robert A. Emmons Jr., a lecturer in film studies and fine art in Camden, where he is an assistant director of the Honors College, will discuss his forthcoming book “Comics as the Source.” Emmons’ gallery talk will address how comics have impacted artistic disciplines from literature to film. Organized by the Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University, “Art in the ’Toon Age” is touring nationally through Laudau Traveling Exhibitions of Los Angeles.

Breaking Barriers
Nationally known writers, activists, filmmakers, and films will be featured in this year’s “Breaking Barriers,” a series sponsored by the Rutgers College Office of Student Development and College Affairs. The series begins Tuesday, September 19, with a reading by poet Jay Wright, a Rutgers graduate whose works have won numerous awards. Bobby Moresco, producer of “Crash” and “Million Dollar Baby,” follows on Thursday, October 5. Other highlights include an October 23 appearance by Azar Nafisi, author of “Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books,” and a Katrina relief benefit reading by four noted poets from the Gulf Coast November 15.
