RUPD upgrades to new headquarters, better technology

The Rutgers University Police Department's new facilities in New Brunswick are finally worthy of its stature. Larger than many municipal police departments in New Jersey with a cadre of 58 sworn police officers, the RUPD presents a professional front to the public. But their old home presented, well, a less polished image.

“We have always had a very good police department,” said Chief Rhonda Harris. “It was hard to get past the image of the building.”

The old white house at 5 Huntington St. on the College Avenue Campus is now vacant, with the police department moving into the new Public Safety Building at the corner of George and Commercial streets in downtown New Brunswick.

Jill Jerauld, pro and manager of the Rutgers Golf Course in Piscataway, is the only female PGA member head golf professional in New Jersey. The course sees 200 golfers on weekdays and 250 golfers on weekend days.

Engineering Students Help Bring Clean Water to Eastern Kenya

Rutgers undergraduate students Diane Manibo, Kevin Tevis, Reema Shah, left to right, and Jenna Pacheco, bottom, spent three weeks in Eastern Kenya this summer helping to build a harvesting system that will supply healthy water to 200 families that survive as subsistence farmers. The students are members of the Rutgers chapter of Engineers Without Borders, which is training a new kind of internationally responsible engineering student.    Full Story
