Volunteers get ready to pitch in to create a sustainable garden for the Norman Samuels Plaza on the Newark Campus.

earth day In honor of Earth Day, faculty, staff, and students from Rutgers–Newark offered their services to the City of Newark. On April 19, volunteers planted a sustainable perennial garden in the Norman Samuels Plaza, and on the following day, they pitched in to help ready the gardens at the Greater Newark Conservancy. Annual Earth Day activities at Rutgers–Newark allow faculty, staff, and students to give back to the community by making the campus’ home city a more “green” environment. Earth Day Participants received free T-shirts (“sweatshop-free” and made from organic cotton) and enjoyed free Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
