ON CAPITOL HILL Twenty Rutgers students ventured to Washington, D.C., this month to lobby Congress for more federal aid. Rutgers students receive about $200 million in federal financial aid, including Pell Grants, Supplemental Equal Opportunity Grants, Work-Study, and Perkins and Direct Loans. Pell Grants alone amount to $28 million, assisting more than 10,000 of the neediest students. While the Pell Grant maximum has increased in recent years, funding for many other student aid programs has remained flat or decreased since 2000.
