Rutgers receives grant to establish Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health

Rutgers has received a four-year, $10 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to establish the Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health.

Robert M. Goodman, executive dean of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, said the university plans build a facility on the George H. Cook Campus that combines basic scientific research and clinical work. "There is a critical need to link the system of food production with nutrition and overall human health,” Goodman said.
Rutgers has been a pioneer in food science and nutrition. The university was among the first to establish academic departments in those fields more than a half-century ago.

EXCITEMENT OVER NEW FOOTBALL BOOK On December 4, the Scarlet Knights beat Louisville 63-14 to clinch a trip to the Papajohns.com Bowl in Alabama. But the football fun began earlier that day at the Rutgers University bookstore. A book signing for Rutgers University Football Vault: The History of the Scarlet Knights scored big with fans and media. Pictured above are the book's author, Thomas J. Gretchen Chapman's speciality is in the psychology of decision making. Her research has examined how people make decisions about getting flu shots and vaccinations. "Perceptions of risk are a big predictor, but emotions are also a key part of the decision," she says.
