Rutgers Provides Free Health Screenings to Veterans on Veterans Day
WHAT: Rutgers School of Nursing’s FOCUS Wellness Center provides veterans free health screenings for hypertension, diabetes, mental health and vision. Also offering nutrition and fitness education, Yoga and relaxation exercises.
WHEN: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015
WHERE: FOCUS Wellness Center, 449 Broad St., Newark, NJ
WHO: Wilfred Rodriguez, social worker and military chaplain, manager of the FOCUS center’s Vet’s Interactive Project, organized the event. Rodriguez is a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve who was deployed to Iraq with the Marines for two tours of duty.
BACKGROUND: The FOCUS Wellness Center offers primary care, behavioral and mental health services; social work services; and medication management to Newark residents. The Vet’s Interactive Project, established in 2014 with a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, connects veterans and their families with these services.
