Announcing Campus Leadership Appointments (Aug. 29, 2011)
To the Campus Community:
As the campus prepares for the start of the new semester, I am pleased to announce two leadership appointments that will help Rutgers–Camden advance our ability to serve our students, faculty, staff, graduates, and the citizens of New Jersey.
Dr. Julie Amon has accepted the role of associate chancellor for academic services. In this position, which incorporates many of the responsibilities that had been held by Dr. Christopher Dougherty, Julie will lead the campus’s efforts to promote successful academic outcomes for our students. She will oversee the planning and programming for our growing off-campus and online programs; the Learning Center; the Educational Opportunity Fund; TRiO opportunity programs; the registrar’s office; and instructional computing service. She will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders to make certain that the academic experiences of our students continuously improve.
Julie brings deep and varied experiences to this new role. She most recently served as assistant dean for first-year students at Case Western Reserve University, where she also served as acting dean of undergraduate studies. She also has served in various student-centric capacities at Wayne State University, Northern Kentucky University, and Kent State University.
Julie earned her EdD in higher education management at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her master’s degree at Kent State University and her bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado–Boulder.
Tracy Elliott has accepted the position of assistant chancellor for development, which will play a key role in helping the campus to successfully compete for the external support that Rutgers–Camden needs if we are to grow our ability to continue to attract and retain top students, promote faculty research, and develop new opportunities for civic engagement.
The position absorbs the local responsibilities formerly held by Jonathan Boiskin, with the notable difference that Tracy’s work will focus exclusively on the Camden Campus. Tracy will report to me, and will work closely with the deans and me to manage our development efforts, alumni relations, and relations with our many external partners to increase investment in Rutgers–Camden.
Most recently, Tracy served as senior director of corporate and foundation relations at the Rutgers University Foundation, where she helped to raise more than $13 million dollars for her areas of responsibility during a four-year period. She previously served as a development director for the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers–New Brunswick, and in a similar capacity for such organizations as the Community Resource Exchange, the Newark Museum, and the Adirondack Museum.
Tracy earned her master’s degree from New York University and her bachelor’s degree from Manhattanville College.
These positions represent campus priorities that are critical to the continued growth of Rutgers–Camden. The success of our students is at the core of all that we do, and the development of programs that strengthen retention and academic achievement is of clear importance. Similarly, Rutgers–Camden must secure increased revenue from external sources in order to realize our aspirations. Through Rutgers’ current capital campaign, and beyond, we must cultivate additional investment from private resources to advance our students, our faculty, and our mission.
Please join me in welcoming Julie Amon and Tracy Elliott to Rutgers–Camden, and in offering them our full support on these significant matters. Both will start their new roles in early September.
Thank you for all that you do on behalf of Rutgers–Camden. I look forward to working with you throughout the new academic year.
Wendell E. Pritchett
Chancellor
