Announcing the Formation of the Rutgers-Camden Faculty Council (Nov. 20, 2012)

November 20, 2012

Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to report the formation of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty Council, an entity that will promote deeper collaborations among our entire faculty regardless of their academic units while also providing me, the deans, and campus leadership with advice and insight into how we might continue to grow Rutgers–Camden.

This is a significant milestone for the evolution of our campus.  While the faculty of each academic unit consistently shares its best thinking with their deans and/or with me directly, Rutgers–Camden now has a structure for regular exchanges of information and ideas.  The Rutgers–Camden Faculty Council is the natural expression of our unified campus community.

The inaugural members of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty Council, serving for the 2012-13 term, are:

Chair:    Dr. Samuel Rabinowitz (associate professor, SBC-management)

CFAS, Humanities: Dr. Carol Singley (professor, English)

CFAS, Natural Sciences/Mathematics:  Dr. Joseph Martin (professor, biology)

CFAS, Social Sciences:  Dr. Richard Harris (professor, political science)

SBC:  Dr. Samuel Rabinowitz (associate professor, management)

CLaw: Prof. Perry Dane (professor)

SNC: Dr. Janice Beitz (professor)

SSW:  Dr. Judith McCoyd (associate professor)

Robeson Library:  Prof. Julie Still (librarian)

Part-Time Lecturers:       Prof. Paul More (mathematics)

There are many individuals to thank for bringing this concept to fruition.  As president of the Arts and Sciences Faculty Senate, Dr. Andrew Lees (professor II, history) held a leadership role in this important endeavor.  He worked in collaboration with Dr. Janice Beitz, Prof. Perry Dane, Dr. Samuel Rabinowitz, and Prof. Julie Still to develop the proposal that resulted in the Faculty Council.

Please join me in thanking the members of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty Council, as well as Dr. Lees, for their commitment to the continuous advancement of our campus.
