Campus Initiatives for the Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 21 (Jan. 8, 2013)
To the Campus Community:
While many of you are enjoying some well-earned relaxation during the break between the traditional semesters, Rutgers–Camden remains a hub of activity. Our Winterim session is in full swing and we welcome our law students back to campus as their semester begins.
The spring semester for the rest of our campus starts on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and I look forward to greeting many of you on campus that day and throughout the coming weeks. More than ever before, Rutgers–Camden is advancing as our students achieve their goals; our faculty produce innovations in teaching and research; and our entire community engages with our host city and the wider region.
I would like to invite you to join me for a unique opportunity to make a difference in our neighborhood in a very short period of time. During the Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 21, members of the Rutgers–Camden community will participate in activities that will strengthen the quality of life for families and organizations in the City of Camden. These efforts honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and spotlight Rutgers–Camden’s intrinsic passion for civic engagement and collaboration.
A wide range of activities are available for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their families. My own family and I once again will participate in this Day of Service. We find numerous highlights each year, including the conversation and camaraderie during the lunch provided at the end of the morning.
More information about the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Rutgers–Camden is online at http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/webform/mlk-service-day. Whether you choose to join us through this campus initiative or some other form of engagement, I encourage you to consider taking some time to improve your community, both on Jan. 21 and throughout the year.
Wendell E. Pritchett, J.D., Ph.D.
Chancellor
