Experts from Rutgers-Camden: Roe v. Wade

On Jan. 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its landmark decision on Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion and ignited a firestorm of controversy that continues today. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the case. The following experts from Rutgers–Camden are available to discuss the decision’s place in history, its impact on legal history, the Supreme Court, birth control, other social factors, and continuing aspects of the abortion rights controversy.

JANET GOLDEN is a professor of history at Rutgers-Camden and a specialist in medical history, women’s history, children’s history and American social history. The author of several books, Golden’s professional service includes serving on the council of and chairing various committees for the American Association for the History of Medicine.

EARL MALTZ is a distinguished professor of law at the Rutgers School of Law–Camden.  The author of numerous books and more than 50 articles on constitutional law, the role of the courts, and legal history, he can discuss how the Roe v. Wade decision was a turning point in the history of the Supreme Court.

MARGARET MARSH is a university professor of history at Rutgers.  The author of numerous articles on topics like the history of motherhood, she wrote The Fertility Doctor: John Rock and the Reproductive Revolution (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008). She can discuss Roe v. Wade’s impact on the history of birth control.
