New perspectives on higher education in southern New Jersey (Feb. 29, 2012)

February 29, 2012

To the Campus Community:

Earlier today, New Jersey State Senator Donald Norcross (D.-5) published an op-ed in the Courier-Post that called for greater investment in Rutgers–Camden.  He also endorsed the strong role of the Rutgers brand in southern New Jersey and advocated the formation of partnerships that would allow both Rutgers–Camden and Rowan to flourish while continuing to respect their distinct identities and missions.

I encourage you to read Sen. Norcross’ perspectives and ideas at http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20120229/OPINION02/302290003/Region-must-get-fair-share-education-funds

I thank Sen. Norcross for his leadership in this important public discussion.  He is joined by a growing group of area legislators and leaders who are voicing support for Rutgers in Camden; I encourage you to express your appreciation for their efforts, and to continue to press those who have not indicated their similar support.

We continue to work with Rutgers and the southern New Jersey community to develop options that advance our goal of increased resources for higher education while respecting Rutgers–Camden’s excellence in research, teaching, and service.  I will be certain to keep you apprised of our progress.
