BACKGROUND: New Jersey is one of the most diverse states in the nation, but do the state's governing bodies reflect this diversity? Should they? This session will examine the profile of elected officials, how local government relates and operates, and whether more diversified governing bodies can better represent the whole community.

Rutgers' CGS provides in-service training, conducts applied policy research, serves as a clearinghouse for information and offers technical assistance to municipal, county and state agencies.
