Rutgers students present excerise workshop for seniors (Dec. 1)
WHAT: Exercise program for senior citizens developed and taught by Rutgers students WHO: Rutgers students in the "Exercise and Aging" class teaching Central Jersey senior citizens WHEN: Monday, Dec. 1, 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. WHERE: Loree Gym, 70 Lipman Drive, Douglass College, New Brunswick
BACKGROUND: Rutgers students in the "Exercising and Aging" course taught by Susan Kaplowitz, senior exercise specialist and instructor in the department of exercise science and sports studies, are studying the physical, psychological and demographic characteristics of the older population. Students also learn the beneficial effects of exercise on conditions associated with aging. As part of the course, they developed an exercise program for senior citizens to strengthen their muscles. Senior citizens from The Chelsea at East Brunswick, an assisted living residence, will attend the workshop.
