WHAT: "Center for Advanced Information Processing (CAIP) Annual Research Review," a full day of lectures, presentations and laboratory demonstrations focusing on the latest computer-related advances in the fields of health care, communications, astrophysics and more.
Potential highlights include:
"Internet Telephony," an 11 a.m. presentation of emerging communication capabilities
"Tele-Rehabilitation for Extremities," a 2:15 p.m. demonstration of remote virtual-reality therapy used in treating injuries
"Supermassive Black Holes and Supercomputers," a 2:30 p.m. discussion of the fastest computer at Rutgers, the "Gravity Pipe," which calculates the gravitational forces between stars
WHO: The CAIP Annual Research Review is sponsored by the Rutgers Center for Advanced Information Processing. Scheduled to participate are scientists from Rutgers, AT&T Labs, Sun Microsystems and Telcordia. New Jersey Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula (D-17) will offer luncheon remarks. WHEN: Technical program from 8:45 a.m. through a 4:30 p.m. reception, Wednesday (Nov. 12). BACKGROUND: The CAIP Annual Research Review highlights new projects and recent developments in high-technology research at the center. CAIP conducts forefront research in the application of computing technology to the solution of industrial problems, and collaborates with industry and government to transfer the results of university research to society at large.
