Symposium at Rutgers School of Law-Newark to Examine Impact of U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Race-based School Assignment Policies
National legal and education experts to discuss broad implications
All media are invited to attend this symposium, which is free and open to the public.
In June 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court held (in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1 and Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education) that school districts cannot use race as the sole factor in assigning students to public schools. Rutgers Race and the Law Review, the country’s second oldest journal to focus on the broad spectrum of multicultural issues, devotes its 2008 symposium to the broad implications of the decision and its impact on New Jersey schools.
