Gates Scholarship winners to be honored with proclamation, resolution

 WHAT:  “Rutgers Day in Trenton,” a showcase of the university’s people, programs and contributions to the state and beyond, featuring a recap of the first-year New Jersey Leaders of Tomorrow Presidential Internship Program. Starting last fall, 32 juniors and seniors served one-semester internships in the district offices of lawmakers, and in the offices of the Governor and the Senate and Assembly majorities, and also attended a special Civic Engagement and Service Education Partnership Program (CESEP) political science seminar to earn three credits. Also, Rutgers’ three Gates Foundation Scholarship recipients will be congratulated with a gubernatorial proclamation and legislative resolution.
WHO:

Rutgers President Richard L. McCormick; Isabel Nazario, associate vice president for academic and public partnerships in the arts and humanities; fall 2007 and spring 2008 New Jersey Leaders of Tomorrow Presidential interns. Also, fall 2008 interns: Jacklyn Adames (Bayonne), Sara Afayee (Kearny), Nahrin Ahmed (Lawrenceville), Kyle S. Beakley (Woodbury Heights), Bonnie Brookes (Brick), Amanda Cafaro (Cherry Hill), Aungar Chatterjee (Jersey City), Andrea Coan (Wayne), Marisol Conde-Herandez (New Brunswick), Eleanor Doong (Edison), Emma Fawcett (Howell), Benjamin Federici (Lavallette), Alissa Goetz (Freehold), Thomas Guarrieri (Lawrenceville), Deborah Ha (Morris Plains), Mitchell Maurer (New Brunswick), Megan Milhisler (Succasunna), Mickey Quinn (New Brunswick), Christen Lee Rafuse (Morris Plains), Artyom Rogov (Marlboro), Nadia Sheikh (Weehawken), Lysa Silverstein (Howell) and Lisa Tittel (Monroe Township).

Gates Scholars Michael Hayoun (Margate), Suzanne Pilaar (Haledon) and Brian Spatocco (Sewell) will receive a proclamation from Gov. Jon S. Corzine and legislative resolutions.

WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, May 15. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., exhibits, Rutgers units from all campuses, State House Annex Tunnel, Goldfinch Square, Café NJ lobby; 10 a.m., student leaders, Scarlet Knight mascot deliver chocolate R favors to State House offices; 11:30 a.m., Gates Scholars honored on Senate floor (with Sens. John Girgenti, Jim Whelan and Fred Madden); noon, buffet luncheon, basement level courtyard (rain: Annex Rooms 101-103).
