| WHO: | Students who are members of the Rutgers chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA |
| WHEN: | Friday, May 1, 2009 |
| WHERE: | Rutgers Golf Course, 777 Hoes Lane West, Piscataway |
| BACKGROUND: |
The Rutgers chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA is planning a trip to rural Nong Bua, Thailand, this summer to finish designing a drinking water purification system. The trip will be a continuation of work the students began last summer and fall to study the current water systems and design solutions to deal with discolored, foul-smelling water that contained excessive sediments. Many people in the community live at the Thai poverty line, and are forced to buy expensive bottled water or dig their own wells because they are afraid to drink water from the community water system. Engineers Without Borders-USA is a nonprofit, student-run organization that partners with communities locally and abroad to implement sustainable engineering solutions while teaching students to be internationally responsible engineers. This is the first golf outing held by the Rutgers student chapter to fund this project. |
