Newly Renovated Rutgers–Camden Athletic Facility Opens for Media Tour (June 18)

June 10, 2009

DATE: Thursday, June 18

TIME: 10 a.m.

PLACE: Rutgers–Camden Athletic and Fitness Center, located on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden Campus.

WHAT: Student athletes at Rutgers–Camden won national and state championships with a decades-old gymnasium. Imagine what the Scarlet Raptors will achieve once they begin training this August in a new, state-of-the-art facility.

During this media tour of the Rutgers–Camden Athletic and Fitness Center, student athletes from Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties will showcase the 75,000 square-foot renovated space that features top-of-the-line cardio and strength-training equipment; a resistance pool; temperature-controlled showers; first-ever team locker rooms; and a team lecture hall with smart technology.

Photo opportunities will include the Rutgers–Camden mascot, the Scarlet Raptor, working out on a treadmill; student athletes showing off their new facility; locally-inspired murals created by a Rutgers–Camden alum; and a soon-to-be overflowing trophy case.

Rutgers–Camden is an NCAA Division III school that offers 16 sports programs, including women’s lacrosse, which will begin its intercollegiate season this spring. In the past decade, Rutgers–Camden Athletics has celebrated an NCAA National Championship, an ECAC Metro title, an NJAC Championship, and 14 All-American athletes.

This new facility represents Rutgers–Camden’s impressive journey from a beleaguered athletics program in the early 1990s to a regional powerhouse that wins national titles and respect. Your coverage of this “sneak peek” into the new Athletic and Fitness Center offers strong opportunities for video, photography, and sound.
