AT&T, American Camp Association to Honor ‘SPARK’ Campers for ‘Cell Phones for Soldiers’ Community Service Project

WHO: Campers and staff from the Summer Program at Rutgers for Kids (“SPARK”), including Director Rosa Salgado-Rodriguez. SPARK campers live in Bridgewater, Edison, Gillette, Highland Park, Milltown, Monroe Township, North Brunswick, North Plainfield, Piscataway, Plainfield, Somerset and South Plainfield.
WHAT: “SPARKers” will be honored by representatives from AT&T, including store manager Darren Carter, and the American Camp Association (ACA) as co-winners of this summer’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” community service project.
WHEN: 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15
WHERE: AT&T Wireless store, 767 Shoppes Blvd. at The Shoppes at North Brunswick, Route 1 N. and Route 130
BACKGROUND: Last summer, SPARK introduced a community service project lunchtime initiative to its slate of activities. Campers created and decorated an environmentally friendly “Cell Phones for Soldiers” drop-off box, and also made holiday cards for U.S. troops. Their efforts made them co-champions, with Catholic Youth Camp of Roseville, Minn., of the friendly community service contest sponsored by AT&T and ACA.
