Harvard Professor, Host of New PBS Series, Brings Interactive Discussion of Justice to Rutgers

WHAT:	Harvard University Professor Michael Sandel will hold an interactive discussion based on his popular course, “Justice.” Sandel, host of the PBS series Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? engages audiences in lively explorations of hot-button issues ranging from cheating to cannibalism, from torture to the morality of markets in votes, kidneys, or even babies. BACKGROUND:	One of the most popular professors at Harvard, Sandel has been teaching philosophy there since 1980. His latest book, Justice, is being published this fall by Farrar Straus and Giroux, joining earlier books on topics including democracy, liberalism, bioethics and morality in politics. His writings have appeared in The Atlantic, The New Republic and The New York Times. Sandel received his doctorate from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. His new TV program, based on his undergraduate course on justice, is produced by WGBH and offered on public television and online. The Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers presents Sandel under the auspices of the Arthur J. Holland Program on Ethics in Government. The program was established to honor the distinguished Rutgers alumnus and longtime mayor of Trenton, a proponent and practitioner of open, responsive and ethical government.
