Rutgers-Camden Law Graduate Selected to Clerk for U.S. Supreme Court
Claire Evans to Clerk for Associate Justice Clarence Thomas
CAMDEN -- Claire Evans, a 2002 graduate of Rutgers School of Law--Camden , has accepted a clerkship with Associate Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court. The one-year clerkship will begin in July 2008.
"Clearly, this is a singular accomplishment earned by Claire and the Rutgers community applauds her," said Rayman L. Solomon, dean of the Rutgers-Camden School of Law. "She was an extraordinary student and has become a top-notch legal practitioner. Her personal achievement is good news for Rutgers also, which continues its tradition of preparing students for successful legal careers at the very highest levels."
After graduation, Evans was a law clerk to the Honorable Jerome B. Simandle of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Honorable Michael Chertoff of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She has since worked in the Office of General Counsel at the Department of Homeland Security and in the Office of the Solicitor General and the Criminal Appellate Section at the Department of Justice. She is currently completing a clerkship with the Honorable David Sentelle, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
"I am honored and delighted to have the opportunity to serve as a clerk for Justice Thomas. I am grateful for the preparation and support that I have received from so many people, including the faculty and staff at Rutgers," says Evans.
Evans earned her bachelor’s degree in art conservation and art history from the University of Delaware in 1998.
