July 10, 2008

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Roselle Park native and retired marketing executive Beverly J. Johnson has endowed a $10,000 annual scholarship for qualified graduates of the town’s school system to attend Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

The new Beverly J. Johnson Scholarship Award has been established in appreciation of “the outstanding education provided her by the Roselle Park school system and Rutgers University.” It will cover annual tuition and fees for a qualified graduate who attends Rutgers.

Johnson and her family, including her sisters Dorothy and the late June Johnson, were raised on East Grant Avenue and attended Roselle Park schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. Their father, Robert C. Johnson, was a member of the library board. He and their mother, Amelia, were active in the town’s American Legion Post. The family attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Elizabeth.

A graduate of Rutgers Business School in Newark, Johnson moved to California in 1956 and began her career as a corporate marketing executive and successful entrepreneur in the marketing of electronic and computer products throughout the United States, Europe,  Asia, and the Pacific. Her firm,  B.J. Johnson & Associates, became a world leader in business-to-business marketing.

Now retired, Johnson lives in Newport Beach, Calif.
