Bioterrorism Expert to Discuss National Security During Nov. 12 Lecture at Rutgers–Camden

November 07, 2008

CAMDEN --  Noted bioterrorism expert Leonard Cole will discuss the ongoing global bioterror threat during a free lecture at Rutgers University—Camden at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.

His talk, "The Bioterror Threat:  Real or Imaginary?," will discuss the likelihood of a bioattack, the effectiveness of biological weapons, the interest by terrorists in acquiring them, and what the nation has learned from the anthrax attacks in 2001.

Cole frequently appears on television and has been a regular on MSNBC.  He is the author of seven books and editor of one, including The Anthrax Letters: A Medical Detective Story, which was named a 2004 HONOR BOOK by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, and, most recently, Terror: How Israel Has Coped and What America Can Learn.

An adjunct professor of political science at Rutgers—Newark, he has written numerous articles for such publications as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Scientific American. He has testified before Congressional committees and made invited presentations to such federal government agencies as the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

His lecture is sponsored by the Political Science Society student organization and the Department of Political Science, both at Rutgers—Camden.

The event will be held in room 110 in 319 Cooper Street, located on the Camden Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
