Kyle Farmbry, Assistant Professor of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University, Newark, Named Fulbright New Century Scholar

March 12, 2009

Dr. Kyle Farmbry(Newark, NJ) -- Dr. Kyle Farmbry, assistant professor at the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University in Newark, has been named a Fulbright New Century Scholar for the May 2009-April 2010 term.

The Fulbright New Century Scholars Program is an initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars designed to forge new links among scholars and professionals from around the world who work collaboratively to seek solutions to issues and concerns that affect humankind. Each year approximately 30 outstanding scholars and practitioners from the U.S. and abroad are selected as New Century Scholars to participate in the program through an open competition. Of the thirty scholars, approximately one-third are U.S. citizens; the remaining two thirds are visiting scholars from participating countries.

The New Century Scholar theme for 2009-2010 is “The University as Innovation Driver and Knowledge Center.” Long regarded as economic engines of their local communities and regions, universities contributing to the global network of knowledge are now emerging as catalysts of global innovation and widening prosperity. The 2009-2010 New Century Scholar Program will engage scholars in research and project initiatives that will advance knowledge and practical solutions to the role higher education can play in national and global economic development.

“Being named a Fulbright New Century Scholar is quite an honor,” said Farmbry, who joined the Rutgers faculty in 2005 and conducts research in the areas of comparative administration, organizational theory, and relations between the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. “I welcome the opportunity to engage in collaborative thinking and multi-disciplinary research with esteemed colleagues from the U.S. and other parts of the world.”

Farmbry, a resident of South Orange, New Jersey, who received his doctoral degree from The George Washington University, can be contacted at 973-353-3980 or kfarmbry@andromeda.rutgers.edu.
