New Initiatives to Promote Campus and Community Growth
To the Campus Community:
Rutgers-Camden has a strong record of creating opportunities to engage new audiences and increase our services to the State of New Jersey. During these difficult economic times, we will sharpen and advance our efforts to extend a Rutgers-Camden education to more individuals, and to promote economic growth and development in our host city and region.
To that end, I am pleased to report the following appointments to new positions created to help identify and develop new revenue streams for our campus and new pathways for boosting our region:
Dr. Paul Thornton is the assistant dean for off-campus programs. While he reports directly to Dr. Christopher Dougherty (associate dean, CFAS), this position has campus wide responsibilities to collaboratively develop off-campus and online programs that will address the needs of varied undergraduate and graduate student populations. He will work with the academic units and departments to develop these offerings.
Paul recently served as dean of adult studies at Wesley College, where he developed off-campus programs and led the implementation of online education modules. He also served as chair of the Department of Business Administration, where he was an associate professor. He has worked in a number of capacities at E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company. Paul received his bachelor's degree in applied science from Troy University; his master of business administration degree from the University of Rochester; and his doctor of education in education leadership from the University of Delaware.
Gregory Gamble is the director of economic development, reporting to Vice Chancellor Larry Gaines. With the retirement of Dr. William Reynolds, this position incorporates the role of CEO of the Rutgers-Camden Technology Campus business incubator, which continues to nurture more than 40 nascent businesses and to help those businesses "graduate" into new enterprises that boost employment and the vitality of southern New Jersey. Greg also will have the responsibility to build relationships with a wide range of businesses and organizations with the goal of enhancing the economy of the Greater Camden region. Based on the successful models of other urban universities, his efforts will seek to encourage retail growth and other forms of investment in our neighborhood and city.
He has served as vice president and community reinvestment act officer at Carver Federal Savings Bank in New York City; as vice president of risk management and administration at United Bank of Philadelphia; and as vice president of business quality integration at JP Morgan Chase. Greg attended Polytechnic University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and his master's degree in operations management. He received his executive master of business administration degree from Temple University, and is pursuing his master of governmental administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Please join me in welcoming Paul Thornton and Greg Gamble to our campus and their critical new roles.
Margaret Marsh
Interim Chancellor
