Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. Announces 2009 Charles J. Walsh Scholar at Rutgers Law School–Newark
Newark, NJ – Sills Cummis & Gross is pleased to announce that Brian Biglin, a first-year student at Rutgers School of Law–Newark, has been selected as the Firm’s 2009 Charles J. Walsh scholar. In 2006, Sills Cummis & Gross established the Scholar Fund on behalf of the family, friends and colleagues of the late Judge Charles J. Walsh who, prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County, was a valued Member of the Firm for 17 years. Judge Walsh was also an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School. Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. is a full-service law firm with more than 160 attorneys in New Jersey and New York.
Mr. Biglin was chosen for his academic promise, leadership qualities, and commitment to using the law to help others. He stated that he is “attracted to the legal profession because lawyers have the power to make a difference. It’s not the headline-making cases so much as the ordinary activities – like drafting a lease to help get a business off the ground or making the right motion at the right time in court — these are the daily reminders of the larger purpose of being an attorney.” Mr. Biglin received an A.B. in economics from the University of Michigan where he served as the managing editor of The Michigan Review, the school newspaper.
The Charles J. Walsh Scholar Fund will provide financial and other assistance to Mr. Biglin in the form of scholarship support, summer internship stipends, active mentorship during law school, and career guidance.
Max Crane, Managing Partner of Sills Cummis & Gross, stated: “We are pleased to welcome Brian Biglin, our 2009 Charles J. Walsh Scholar. It is very rewarding to support Rutgers School of Law by assisting and mentoring students such as Mr. Biglin. We are confident that he will use this experience to become an excellent lawyer and thus continue Chuck’s legacy.”
