The World of Science and Technology at Rutgers Day
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Challenge your senses and test your mind. Let Rutgers scientists and engineers open doors for you to new worlds and let them guide you through the mysteries of virtual reality, forensics and pharmaceuticals.
A world of wonder and excitement awaits you and your family at Rutgers Day on Saturday, April 25, on the Busch Campus in Piscataway. Demonstrations, presentations, quizzes, games and other interactive activities will be going on continuously from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Engineering Quad area. Directions and details are on the Web at rutgersday.rutgers.edu.
- Rutgers information technology experts will be on hand to give advice on how to avoid or recover from identity theft, prevent those pesky pop-ups and stop spyware.
- Computer scientists will demonstrate virtual reality, learning robots and computer art. You can try to crack brain teasers and beat computer-generated opponents.
- Wander through the Amazing Mind Maze where at each dead end a psychology student challenges you with a quiz, visual illusion or activity that reveals the workings of the human brain.
- Watch concrete crumble and steel snap as Rutgers engineers portray a dark future for our nation’s highways and bridges while they explore new ways to safeguard our infrastructure.
- Budding criminalists can play CSI. Investigate crime scenes using modern forensics and practice old-fashioned police work, dusting for fingerprints, detecting bloodstains, analyzing hair samples and testing eyewitness memories.
- You can learn about over-the-counter medications, get a blood pressure reading, uncover the truth about fad diets and hear the latest on vaccines.
This is only a taste from the menu of what you will find in the world of science and technology at Rutgers Day.
The entire state is invited to join in the first-ever Rutgers Day, featuring nearly 400 free performances, demonstrations, tours and kid-friendly activities on the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses. Rutgers Day “loop” buses will provide free transportation among activity zones, and free parking will be available.
Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to plan their day by visiting the Rutgers Day Web site at rutgersday.rutgers.edu for program schedules and maps.
Rutgers Day will provide an opportunity for New Jerseyans of all ages to explore the world of science and technology in a day of fun, learning and discovery at their state’s flagship university.
Rutgers Day is sponsored in part by the Star-Ledger/nj.com, Magic 98.3/WCTC 1450, PSE&G and St. Peter's Healthcare System.
