NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Anthony J. DePetris, a 1984 graduate of Rutgers-Camden and past chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, was inducted today as a member of Rutgers’ Board of Governors. DePetris has been a trustee since 1998.DePetris

DePetris, a public management professional for more than 20 years, is director of administrative and personnel services for the LEAP Academy University Charter School in his hometown of Camden.

DePetris has maintained strong ties to Rutgers since his graduation from the Rutgers-Camden College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS). He has taught courses in public administration at Rutgers-Camden and is a member and former chair of the CCAS Dean’s Advisory Council. He has been a member of the Rutgers University-Camden Alumni Association (RUCAA) Board of Trustees since 1984. He served as president from 1991 to 1993.

DePetris also served on the Public Administration Alumni Chapter, an alumni satellite group of the association’s board. He received the Rutgers University Alumni Federation’s Meritorious Service Award in 2001.

“Mr. DePetris’ personal and professional life has been all about service,” said Rutgers President Richard L. McCormick. “We welcome that philosophy to the Board of Governors and intend to capitalize on his years of experience as we undertake business that affects members of the Rutgers community and all New Jerseyans.”

Prior to joining the LEAP charter school in 2004, DePetris was director of operations and programs at the Campus Boulevard Corp., an economic and community development collaborative in Philadelphia.

Following a stint as a federal Presidential Management Intern with the U.S. General Services Administration from 1986 to 1988, DePetris was appointed deputy county administrator for Camden County. DePetris has since held positions at the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission and Burlington County College. Besides Rutgers, he has taught at the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Delaware, from which he earned a Master’s of Public Administration degree; Delaware Technical and Community College and Camden County College. DePetris also is a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

His public service has earned DePetris numerous honors over the years, including the 2005 Camden County Dr. Martin Luther King Freedom Medal, citations from the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate, and the 1994 Outstanding Alumnus award from the University of Delaware Alumni Association.

Established in 1766, Rutgers is one of the nation’s premier research universities, serving more than 50,000 students on campuses in Camden, Newark and New Brunswick.
