For Immediate Release
CAMDEN – Eduardo Gomez, an assistant professor of public policy at Rutgers University–Camden, has been elected to term membership in the Council on Foreign Relations, a signature accomplishment presented to a highly select group of exceptional young scholars.
The Stephen M. Kellen Term Member Program encourages promising young leaders in government, media, nongovernmental organizations, law, business, finance, and academia to engage in a sustained conversation on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. The Council on Foreign Relations program designated for junior professionals (between the ages of 30 and 36) who demonstrate exemplary insight into international policy matters early in their academic careers. Gomez, 35, is an expert on global health matters.
The Council on Foreign Relations is the nation’s premier, non-partisan think-tank dedicated to foreign policy. Founded in 1921 as part of the League of Nations (the predecessor to the United Nations), the organization publishes the esteemed journal Foreign Affairs.
A resident of Camden, Gomez joined the Camden Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 2008. In September, he will teach the course International Community Development in the Rutgers–Camden master of public administration program, which is the only nationally accredited MPA program in the metro Philadelphia region.
Gomez received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in politics from the University of Virginia; his master’s degree in international relations from the University of Chicago; and his PhD in political science from Brown University.
The Rutgers–Camden scholar currently is completing a new book that explains how Brazil has outpaced the United States in responding to epidemics since the 18th century. He specializes in how emerging nations, such as Brazil, India, China, and Russia, impact global health policy.
The Rutgers–Camden MPA program offers specialized tracks in Public Management, International Public Service and Development, or Education Policy and Leadership. The program prepares students for leadership roles in every level of government, business, health care, and education.
