NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Administrators and managers in the public and nonprofit sectors, as well as motivated college graduates aiming for a career in these areas, can develop and enhance their leadership and management skills in Rutgers’ Mini-Master in Public Administration™ program being offered September 14-October 12.

Registration has begun for the Mini-MPA™ program, which is offered by Rutgers' Center for Executive Leadership in Government (CELG) at its headquarters at 303 George St.

The 30-hour program is conveniently structured for working professionals, with classes conducted on five consecutive Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participants must complete the entire program to earn the Mini-MPA™ certificate and three CEUs.

The Mini-MPA™ program designed for people with a college degree and/or significant managerial experience in the public, private or nonprofit sectors.

The program is taught by experienced Rutgers faculty and practitioners Seminar topics include: “Setting the Agenda and Advancing Policy,” “Managing Public Organizations,” Managing People in Organizations,” “Leadership and Team Development,” and “Communication Skills for Public Managers.” Seminars also focus on public law, ethical issues, budgeting and financial management.

“Participants engage in interactive, in-depth sessions, covering topics and issues critical to public administrators, particularly during difficult economic times,” said Angie McGuire, assistant director of CELG.

First offered in 2011, the Mini-MPA™ is beginning its fourth series of classes. To date, nearly 50 persons from the public and nonprofit sectors have completed the program. McGuire says the Mini-MPA™ can benefit mid-career professionals as well as recent college graduates.

“Mid-career professionals can fast-track their careers and recent graduates can explore public-sector careers and service,” McGuire said.

The program fee is $2,500, and includes breakfast, lunch and all materials. Displaced workers may be eligible for training grants. Discounts are available for organizations enrolling two or more participants.
