Rutgers Expert Available to Discuss How to Cope with Rising Food Costs
During these times of high food and high fuel prices, people are asking themselves, "Where can I cut back to save money?" A smart spending plan at the grocery store is one place where most people can save some extra money. It just takes time to practice and to develop a spending plan for the grocery store if you haven't done it before.
Dr. Kathleen Morgan, chair of the Department of Family & Community Health Sciences at the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station’s Cooperative Extension, is available to discuss money-saving tactics at the grocery store that can help people cope with rising food costs. She can provide tips on how to:
- Increase awareness of how much you are actually spending at the grocery store
- Save money by eating at home (with added benefits for families with children)
- Avoid the pitfalls of “end caps,” that is, foods displayed at the end of the isle
- Save and make use of all leftovers
- Purchase only what you can use
