Gateway Development Advances
Closing for Gateway/Transit Village project anticipated Oct. 23
STATEMENT BY THE CITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK, RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, THE NEW BRUNSWICK PARKING AUTHORITY AND THE NEW BRUNSWICK DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ON THE GATEWAY/TRANSIT VILLAGE PROJECT
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the city of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Parking Authority and the New Brunswick Development Corporation are pleased to announce that the closing for the Gateway/Transit Village Project, located at the site bordered by Somerset Street, Easton Avenue and Wall Street at the New Brunswick train station, is expected to take place Friday, Oct. 23. This closing includes the transfer of title of 39 Easton Avenue to New Jersey Books. Once New Jersey Books is relocated, the demolition of the remaining buildings on this block can occur followed immediately by the first phase of construction.
This project is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct and indirect construction jobs.
The city, the New Brunswick Development Corporation and Rutgers look forward to the completion of the Gateway Project. It will bring a new, world-class bookstore to the New Brunswick and university communities, new office space and 650 additional parking spaces. The Gateway will create a dynamic and unique destination that will welcome visitors to New Brunswick and Rutgers.
