New York University (NYU) Professor Karl Bardosh, the internationally recognized “father of Cell Phone Cinema,” will teach a free, four-session class in cell phone film-making at Rutgers –Newark campus from noon – 2 p.m. on Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, for students 16 – 22 years of age, in preparation for the “Cell Phone Cinema Contest: Imaging Women… Respect.” With more than 30 years of professional experience in Europe, Hollywood and New York - in all genres of film and television -

About the Event:
The free film-making class is being offered in preparation for the “Cell Phone Cinema Contest: Imaging Women… Respect.” Cell phones have become powerful tools for storytellers and Women in Media-Newark is looking to inspire youth use cell phones to create 3 – 5 minute movies that tell the passionate stories that highlight the indomitable spirit of women. By the end of the class students will have developed an overview of their film, and will have shot at least 45 seconds of video with their cell phones. Students accepted into the class must have a cell phone that shoots video images.
This offering is a collaboration between Women In Media – Newark, Rutgers University-Newark’s Office of University-Community Partnerships and Rutgers University’s Center for African Studies, New Brunswick campus, with sponsorship from the Rutgers Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs (GAIA), New Brunswick campus .
