NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers’ Center for European Studies (CES) will host the inaugural European Union – New Jersey Business Forum, focusing on life sciences industries, Thursday, March 31, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, 30 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick.

The forums will raise awareness in the state’s business community of the European Union and of the potential for stronger EU-New Jersey trade, investment and R&D ties. The center is leading a coalition of partners, including the New Jersey Business Action Center – the state agency that provides important resources for growth and development to companies looking to do business globally – the European-American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey and Rutgers’ Heldrich Center to organize a series of forums emphasizing key industries. They are funded by a generous “Getting to Know Europe” grant from the Delegation of the European Union to the United States in Washington, D.C.

The initial forum on the life sciences industries will explore opportunities for building research and commercial partnerships and identify recent regulatory developments in the EU affecting New Jersey businesses. The program will feature two panel discussions among business leaders and public officials, and will conclude with a keynote address on the state of the transatlantic economy by Professor Daniel Hamilton, executive director of the Center for Transatlantic Relations, SAIS, Johns Hopkins University.

Future forums will cover financial services (June 2), information technology (fall 2011) and energy (February 2012).
