Media outlets have reported a rising controversy about a new edition of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that has removed a racially offensive word.

Dr. J.T. “Joe” Barbarese is an associate professor of English at Rutgers University—Camden, where he has taught the classic to undergraduate and graduate classes.  He can discuss Twain’s place in the canon and the challenges of teaching the book to students.
