The Rutgers–Camden master of fine arts (MFA) program continues its celebrated Writers in Camden series, with readings by A. Van Jordan and Rachel Kushner on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the series is free and open to the public.

Readings are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the 401 Penn classroom, accessible from the side of the Paul Robeson Library, and are followed by Q & A sessions and receptions with the authors. Workshops are held at 3 p.m., at locations to be determined.

A. Van Jordan is the author of The Cineaste, Rise, M-A-C-N-O-L-I-A, and Quantum Lyrics. Among other awards, he has received the Whiting Award, the Annisfield-Wolf Book Award, the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Award, and the Pushcart Prize. A professor of English at the University of Michigan, he lives in Ann Arbor.

Rachel Kushner’s new novel, The Flamethrowers, was published in April 2013. Her debut novel, Telex from Cuba, was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, winner of the California Book Award, and a New York Times bestseller and Notable Book.  Her fiction and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Paris Review, The Believer, Artforum, Bookforum, Fence, Bomb, and Grand Street.  She is a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow.

Chris Ware will lead a workshop.

Tyehimba Jess will read and lead a workshop.

A publishing panel with editors, agents, and publicists will lead a discussion.

April 9

Percival Everett will read.
