Rutgers Professor Charlotte Bunch Says Expectations Are High for New UN Women’s Entity She Helped Create

The Gender Equality Architecture Reform (GEAR) campaign is celebrating the culmination of four years of intensive advocacy with the establishment of UN Women, a new entity devoted to advancing the human rights of women worldwide.

Charlotte Bunch, Rutgers professor of women’s and gender studies and founder of the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, has been one of the key leaders of the GEAR campaign. Bunch says expectations are high for the new agency " to be a solid foundation for advancing the human rights of women," The UN General Assembly was expected to formally adopt the resolution creating UN Women on Friday, July 2.
