To the Campus Community:

On Monday, Jan. 13, the New Jersey Senate confirmed two of Governor Christie’s appointments to the Rutgers–Camden Board of Directors, which is being established in accordance with the New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act.

Effective immediately, the Honorable Dana Redd, mayor of the City of Camden, and the Honorable Nilsa Cruz-Perez, director of constituent services for Camden County, are named to the Rutgers–Camden Board of Directors.

These are impressive individuals who have a rich and nuanced understanding of our host city and Rutgers’ growth potential.  Both of these new board members are familiar to our campus community:  Mayor Redd is a 1996 graduate of our School of Business, while Ms. Cruz-Perez, a former New Jersey Assemblywoman, is the namesake of the Camden County Library branch co-located in the Robeson Library.  I look forward to working with them on behalf of our campus.

As prescribed by the legislation, the Board of Directors is being created to advocate for our campus and to help us plan for, and achieve, strong growth in all areas of our mission.  This board will work in concert with guidelines set forth by the Rutgers Board of Governors.  The membership will consist of three (3) members of the Rutgers Board of Governors; two (2) members of the Rutgers Board of Trustees; and four (4) public members named by the governor.

In 2013, the Rutgers Boards of Governors and Trustees named their members to the Rutgers–Camden Board of Directors.  When the final two public members are named and confirmed, our Board of Directors will be fully constituted.
