1. “The Poets Speak”

During this Black History Month event, acclaimed poets Lamont Steptoe and Ewuare Osayande will deliver a lecture, “The Poets Speak.”

2. Rutgers–Camden Authors Book Readings

Rutgers–Camden student authors Mark A. Bodrog and Sean Lynch will read excerpts from their books during this event.  Bodrog served as a first lieutenant and infantry officer in the U.S. Marines. He looks back at the critical role his unit played supporting Operation Enduring Freedom 10.1, in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in his new book, Second Platoon: Call Sign Hades: A Memoir of the Marines of the Combined Action Company.  Lynch’s first poetry collection, the city of your mind, has earned praise from renowned poets such as Lamont Steptoe, CAConrad, and Frank Sherlock.

3. “Dark Girls” screening

The critically acclaimed documentary “Dark Girls,” by American filmmakers Bill Duke and D. Channsin Berry, explores biases and attitudes regarding skin color and will be shown on the Rutgers–Camden campus during a free screening.

4. Faculty Research Day

Rutgers–Camden is home to some of the most productive emerging and established scholars in the world.  Learn more about current research underway at Rutgers–Camden during the 2014 Chancellor’s Faculty Research Day, when eight junior faculty members will offer brief overviews of their work.

5. Stedman Gallery Exhibition Features Graphic Novel

The gallery show, “Compulsive Narratives: Stories that MUST be Told, the Graphic Novel as Confession and Inspiration.” features artists with sensibilities kindred to the graphic novelists, but working in other mediums, including sculpture, painting, mixed media, and video. Guest curator Cheryl Harper selected original drawings from graphic novels and complementary works in other media by artists who reveal their innermost demons.
