This marks the third consecutive season and 11th time in 15 years that a Scarlet Knight will compete in the NFL's biggest game. It’s Devin McCourty's fifth-career Super Bowl appearance and Harmon's fourth-career appearance, while Joseph-Day and Jason McCourty secured their first trips to the title game. Rutgers is tied with University of Georgia for having the most former players in the Super Bowl this year.

Former Scarlet Knights Devin and Jason McCourty will also make some Super Bowl history this year. The brothers are the first set of twins to play in the same Super Bowl and also the first twin teammates in the NFL since 1926.
