Dr. Jon'a Meyer, an associate professor of criminal justice at Rutgers University-Camden, says violence in schools is not new.

"There has always been violence in schools, just not this type of violence," Meyer notes.

"In a prevailing gun culture, guns are being used now when they used to be just carried. Unfortunately, as more kids bring guns into school, other kids are bringing them in for protection.
