Rutgers-New Brunswick ranks among top producers of Fulbright students for 9th consecutive year

Rutgers students and alumni received 14 Fulbright grants this year, putting Rutgers University among the top producers of Fulbright students.

“For the ninth consecutive year, Rutgers University-New Brunswick continues its proud tradition of being a top American producer of Fulbright students,” Rutgers University-New Brunswick Chancellor Deba Dutta said. “This exemplifies our commitment to serving the public good by providing excellent education and outstanding research that enhances the quality of life for our students and for society as a whole.”

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is sponsored by the Department of State and awards approximately 1,500 grants to recent graduates and graduate students to research, study and teach in more than 140 countries.

Most students who apply are seniors nearing graduation, but graduates and alumni are also eligible. The Fulbright Student Program provides grants for individually designed study or research projects or for English teaching assistant programs. Recipients work, learn and live among the people of the country hosting them.

“Academic records are important for an applicant, but the Fulbright Student Program is as much about cultural exchange as it is about scholarship,” said Arthur Casciato, director of the Office of Distinguished Fellowships.
