Rutgers–Camden will host a free forum for local religious leaders to discuss their approaches for fostering a more just society in Camden and beyond 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
The forum, titled “Religions Working Together for Social Justice: An Interfaith Conference,” is organized by M.A. Rafey Habib, a professor of English at Rutgers–Camden, along with students in his “Literatures of Islam, Judaism and Christianity” course.
“In this conference, we hope to give some indication of how major religions – Islam, Judaism, and Christianity – can work together toward common aims of social justice,” says Habib.
The talk, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held in room 121 of Armitage Hall, located on Fifth Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden campus. Lunch will be served.
The panel of speakers will include: Rabbi David Rabeeya, author of the book A Humanistic Siddur Of Spirituality and Meaning; Imam Faheem Leah of Quba Islamic Center in Camden; Rev. Marilyn Dixon-Hill of Camden Bible Tabernacle; Fr. Martin Gutwein of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Camden; and Kristen Zielinski-Nalen of St. Anthony Padua Roman Catholic Church in Camden.
Habib and his students will also discuss their visits to various mosques, synagogues, and churches.
