An expanded Rutgers Club with more than double the seating of its previous location and a balcony that overlooks the Livingston campus is now open at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

"I like to think of it as the living room of Rutgers-New Brunswick where people can gather, relax, be with their friends, colleagues and family and have a great meal and beverage,'' said Joe Charette, executive director of Rutgers Dining Services. "I think it's going to be a sense of pride for the university for many years to come.

The Rutgers Club originally opened in 1957 on the College Avenue campus and moved to its new location upstairs from the Livingston Dining Commons last year. A ribbon cutting on Sept. 13, attended by about 175 people, included the unveiling of a stunning new bar that takes advantage of the space's high ceilings. While the club is open to the Rutgers community, membership is required to buy alcohol.

The renovation included the addition of a state-of-the-art video and teleconferencing system, meeting spaces and the outdoor balcony. The bar features signature drinks such as "Rutgers in Your Blood" made with juice from blood oranges and the "Scarlet Tito-rita."

The new location is now open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Rutgers Club will also be open during football games and other major events, including a Sept. 27 benefit for the Will Power Fund featuring Maki Mandela, eldest daughter of Nelson Mandela, and Tukwini Mandela, his granddaughter.
